AVCA Legal & Regulatory Bulletin
The bi-annual AVCA Legal & Regulatory Bulletin aims to provide updates and insights from experienced industry professionals across the AVCA membership on topical issues and developments that impact on the legal and regulatory landscape for private capital in Africa. The inaugural edition was launched in April 2017, at the 14th Annual AVCA Conference which took place in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
AVCA Legal & Regulatory Bulletin - Issue 10
AVCA's Legal & Regulatory Committee is pleased to present the latest in the AVCA Legal & Regulatory Bulletin series. In this edition, we travel to Kenya, where we highlight developments in the country’s insolvency laws. Then to Zambia for a regulatory update on its real estate investment trust framework. Next, we arrive in Morocco where we reflect upon the country’s merger control landscape before landing in Nigeria where we consider: (i) the state of play in the fintech merger and acquisition world; (ii) foreign exchange reforms and their impact on foreign direct investment; (iii) considerations for acquisitions of Central Bank of Nigeria’s regulated entities; and (iv) the newly proposed regulatory framework for private equity funds. We then venture to Ethiopia to take a closer look at recent regulatory developments in its capital markets.

AVCA's Legal & Regulatory Committee is pleased to present the latest in the AVCA Legal & Regulatory Bulletin series. In this edition, we cover private equity investment in Uganda and a newly proposed competition bill. In Kenya, we cover changes in the carbon trading regulatory regime and capital gains tax implications on offshore disposals of shares –topics of relevance to investors with exposure to Kenyan assets. We also travel to Rwanda, where we take a closer look at the country’s market building efforts, including the growth of the Kigali International Financial Centre, and provide a regulatory update for private equity investors.
